B-> K photon photon via intermediate eta'
We examine our previous conjecture that the eta' intermediate resonance has
the dominant role in the long distance contributions to B decay into two
photons and a strange final state hadron. We calculate the branching ratio of
the exclusive B-> K eta'-> K photon photon decay using the nonspectator
mechanism for eta' production in charmless hadronic B decays. It is shown that
the obtained branching ratio B^eta'(B-> K\gamma\gamma)~ 8.7 X 10^{-7} is more
than twice as large as the eta_c contribution to this decay mode.Comment: 6 pages, latex, no figure
A study of semi-inclusive charmless decays
We study semi-inclusive charmless decays in detail, such as
, , , where does not contain a charm (anti)quark. We find that
the process () can be particularly
useful for determination of the CKM matrix element . We calculate and
present the branching ratio (BR) of as a function of
, with an estimate of possible uncertainties. It is expected that the
BR is an order of . Our estimation indicates that one can
phenomenologically determine with reasonable accuracy by measuring

Soft end-point and mass corrections to the eta' g*g* vertex function
Power-suppressed corrections arising from end-point integration regions to
the space-like vertex function of the massive eta'-meson virtual gluon
transition eta' - g*g* are computed. Calculations are performed within the
standard hard-scattering approach (HSA) and the running coupling method
supplemented by the infrared renormalon calculus. Contributions to the vertex
function from the quark and gluon contents of the eta' -meson are taken into
account and the Borel resummed expressions for F_{eta' g*g*}(Q2,\omega ,\eta),
as well as for F_{eta' g g*}}(Q^{2},\omega =\pm 1,\eta) and F_{eta'
g*g*}(Q^{2},\omega =0,\eta) are obtained. It is demonstrated that the
power-suppressed corrections \sim (\Lambda ^{2}/Q^{2})^{n}, in the explored
range of the total gluon virtuality 1 <Q2 < 25 GeV2, considerably enhance the
vertex function relative to the results found in the framework of the standard
HSA with a fixed coupling. Modifications generated by the eta ' -meson mass
effects are discussed
Updated Analysis of a_1 and a_2 in Hadronic Two-body Decays of B Mesons
Using the recent experimental data of , , and various model calculations on form
factors, we re-analyze the effective coefficients a_1 and a_2 and their ratio.
QCD and electroweak penguin corrections to a_1 from and
a_2 from are estimated. In addition to the
model-dependent determination, the effective coefficient a_1 is also extracted
in a model-independent way as the decay modes are related by
factorization to the measured semileptonic distribution of at . Moreover, this enables us to extract model-independent
heavy-to-heavy form factors, for example,
and
. The determination of the magnitude of
a_2 from depends on the form factors ,
and at . By requiring that a_2 be
process insensitive (i.e., the value of a_2 extracted from and
states should be similar), as implied by the factorization
hypothesis, we find that form factors are severely constrained;
they respect the relation . Form factors and at
inferred from the measurements of the longitudinal
polarization fraction and the P-wave component in are
obtained. A stringent upper limit on a_2 is derived from the current bound on
\ov B^0\to D^0\pi^0 and it is sensitive to final-state interactions.Comment: 33 pages, 2 figures. Typos in Tables I and IX are corrected. To

Charmless hadronic decays and new physics effects in the general two-Higgs doublet models
Based on the low-energy effective Hamiltonian with the generalized
factorization, we calculate the new physics contributions to the branching
ratios of the two-body charmless hadronic decays of and mesons
induced by the new gluonic and electroweak charged-Higgs penguin diagrams in
the general two-Higgs doublet models (models I, II and III). Within the
considered parameter space, we find that: (a) the new physics effects from new
gluonic penguin diagrams strongly dominate over those from the new -
and - penguin diagrams; (b) in models I and II, new physics contributions
to most studied B meson decay channels are rather small in size: from -15% to
20%; (c) in model III, however, the new physics enhancements to the
penguin-dominated decay modes can be significant, , and
therefore are measurable in forthcoming high precision B experiments; (d) the
new physics enhancements to ratios {\cal B}(B \to K \etap) are significant in
model III, , and hence provide a simple and plausible new
physics interpretation for the observed unexpectedly large B \to K \etap
decay rates; (e) the theoretical predictions for and
in model III are still consistent with the data
within errors; (f) the significant new physics enhancements to the
branching ratios of and decays are helpful to improve the
agreement between the data and the theoretical predictions; (g) the theoretical
predictions of in the 2HDM's are generally
consistent with experimental measurements and upper limits ()Comment: 55 pages, Latex file, 17 PS and EPS figures. With minor corrections,

Experimental Tests of Factorization in Charmless Non-Leptonic Two-Body B Decays
Using a theoretical framework based on the next-to-leading order QCD-improved
effective Hamiltonian and a factorization Ansatz for the hadronic matrix
elements of the four-quark operators, we reassess branching fractions in
two-body non-leptonic decays , involving the lowest lying
light pseudoscalar and vector mesons in the standard model. Using
the sensitivity of the decay rates on the effective number of colors, , as
a criterion of theoretical predictivity, we classify all the current-current
(tree) and penguin transitions in five different classes. The recently measured
charmless two-body decays and charge conjugates) are
dominated by the -stable QCD penguins (class-IV transitions) and their
estimates are consistent with data. The measured charmless and transition ,
on the other hand, belong to the penguin (class-V) and tree (class-III)
transitions. The class-V penguin transitions are in general more difficult to
predict. We propose a number of tests of the factorization framework in terms
of the ratios of branching ratios for some selected decays
involving light hadrons and , which depend only moderately on the
form factors. We also propose a set of measurements to determine the effective
coefficients of the current-current and QCD penguin operators. The potential
impact of decays on the CKM phenomenology is emphasized by

Model-based analyses: Promises, pitfalls, and example applications to the study of cognitive control
We discuss a recent approach to investigating cognitive control, which has the potential to deal with some of the challenges inherent in this endeavour. In a model-based approach, the researcher defines a formal, computational model that performs the task at hand and whose performance matches that of a research participant. The internal variables in such a model might then be taken as proxies for latent variables computed in the brain. We discuss the potential advantages of such an approach for the study of the neural underpinnings of cognitive control and its pitfalls, and we make explicit the assumptions underlying the interpretation of data obtained using this approach
Study of the B^0 Semileptonic Decay Spectrum at the Upsilon(4S) Resonance
We have made a first measurement of the lepton momentum spectrum in a sample
of events enriched in neutral B's through a partial reconstruction of B0 -->
D*- l+ nu. This spectrum, measured with 2.38 fb**-1 of data collected at the
Upsilon(4S) resonance by the CLEO II detector, is compared directly to the
inclusive lepton spectrum from all Upsilon(4S) events in the same data set.
These two spectra are consistent with having the same shape above 1.5 GeV/c.
From the two spectra and two other CLEO measurements, we obtain the B0 and B+
semileptonic branching fractions, b0 and b+, their ratio, and the production
ratio f+-/f00 of B+ and B0 pairs at the Upsilon(4S). We report b+/b0=0.950
(+0.117-0.080) +- 0.091, b0 = (10.78 +- 0.60 +- 0.69)%, and b+ = (10.25 +- 0.57
+- 0.65)%. b+/b0 is equivalent to the ratio of charged to neutral B lifetimes,

Measurement of the Branching Fraction for B->eta' K and Search for B->eta'pi+
We report measurements for two-body charmless B decays with an eta' meson in
the final state. Using 11.1X10^6 BBbar pairs collected with the Belle detector,
we find BF(B^+ ->eta'K^+)=(79^+12_-11 +-9)x10^-6 and BF(B^0 ->
eta'K^0)=(55^+19_-16 +-8)x10^-6, where the first and second errors are
statistical and systematic, respectively. No signal is observed in the mode B^+
-> eta' pi^+, and we set a 90% confidence level upper limit of BF(B^+->
eta'pi^+) eta'K^+- decays is
investigated and a limit at 90% confidence level of -0.20<Acp<0.32 is obtained.Comment: Submitted to Physics Letters
